Hello Morgan County!
May 20, 2008
Hi! I am Nicki Laycoax. I have been a Morgan County resident since I was 10 years old; since 1988. My parents ran the Hall Store & Deli from 1988 until the doors closed in 1996 due to lack of business. I think that my passion for business and this great county that I live in, comes from my responsibilities as a child in the old store… What great lessons I learned during those 8 years. It helped me develop my awareness of the importance of excellent customer service as well as the trials and tribulations of being a business owner.
Since my days in Hall, I’ve gotten to experience life outside Morgan County. I have worked in Indianapolis for Community Health Network and the Department of Workforce Developement for the State of Indiana. I’ve met many, many great people along my path. One of which is my partner, George Roots. We are in business together providing web services doing business as our company, Squish Designs.
Being that my main role in Squish is Marketing, I am always looking for new and effective ways to network. Along my path in my quest for such, I discovered Smaller Indiana. This is an online community that has been growing at a very exponential rate. In March the 1,000th member was celebrated, and just two months later, May 2008 we have over 2,000 members! The reason that I am writing about Smaller Indiana, is that this was the start of the Morgan County Community Days.
I met Jon Speer of Creo Quality through Smaller Indiana. Jon’s company, Creo Quality, my company, Squish Designs, and Jill Hardings company, Boundless Designs, are the founders of these events that are being organized to revitalize Morgan County. We have created a website for everyone to view and get more information: morgancountycommunity.com. The proceeds from these events are being donated to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Morgan County.
This blog will not only be updated with information on the Community Days and all that they are doing for our youth and our community, but also, notable accomplishments and events that are taking place in Morgan County!
