Wow! What a great turnout for today’s meeting! It was great to see so many people show their support for Jared.

I thought I would send a recap from our meeting…

* We are looking at possibly utilizing Jones Crossing Banquet Center for our meetings. This would possibly mean having to rsvp prior to the meeting to determine a head count for lunch. It could also mean finding sponsors to help us cover some of our lunch costs or just carrying in our own each week. I’m interested in your feedback regarding this. Please let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions. The Jones Family has graciously offered us their community room at no charge.
* The Fourth Annual Taste of Mooresville will be here before we know it- we will have an initial meeting at 11:00am next Tuesday, June 10th. We are looking for people interested in serving on sub-committees for the silent auction, logistics, sponsorship and promotions. Please let me know which area(s) you are interested in.
* The golf committee is working hard to put on a great outing this year. Please follow-up with John Ehrhart or Donna Stutler regarding sponsorships and volunteering the day of the event.
* Relay for Life is this Friday and Saturday- we are still looking for volunteers to help walk the track. In addition, we are looking for “Forrest Gump” related items to place in an auction basket. Currently the following people have agreed to provide items…

  • Bottle of Dr. Pepper- Melissa Taylor
  • Box of Chocolates- Todd Henning
  • Ping Pong balls and paddles- Steve Overton
  • Curious George book and movie- Tricia Schmitt
  • Soundtrack- Jeff Pipkin
  • Runner’s World Magazine- John Ehrhart

We are still looking for “Have a nice day” items and any other Bubba Gump or movie related items for the basket. Please get all items to Jeff by Thursday.

* June 17th the club is honored to host Quinn Buckner of the Pacers as our speaker (thank you Terry Crist for arranging this!). Due to expected higher attendance numbers, it is likely this meeting will be held at Jones Crossing- we will let you know as soon as possible. Also on the 17th, the AKTION club will be having a carwash at Damar beginning at 3:00pm.
* July 1st our meeting will be held at the Kiwanis shelter in Pioneer Park. Steve Overton and Jim Newcomer will be providing lunch.
* It was brought to our attention that there may be some interest in a monthly evening meeting to help those who are unable to attend lunch meetings so they may still be able to attend an occasional meeting. If this is something you are interested in, please let me know.
* Our club is currently looking into working on a community service project. A few ideas would include (taken from the Kiwanis website)…

Maternal and Infant Health:
Immunizations, Alcohol Awareness, Home Visitation, Lead Poisoning, Smoke Awareness, for Your Baby Before it’s Born, Childhood Diseases You Can Prevent

Child Care and Development:
Head Start Program, Brain development, Child Care, Field Trips, Itergenerational Projects, Play Day, Paygrounds, Reading is Fundamental

Safety and Pediatric Trauma:
Awareness and prevention of child abuse, CMN award-nomination form, Burns, Children’s Miracle Network,
Home Security Checklist, Hospital Dolls, Hospital Dolls Pattern, Pediatric Trauma, Smoke Detector Safety,
Open Water Safety

Program Education and Support:
Shaken baby syndrome, Parenting Education, Parenting Fair, Parents Anonymous

Please let us know if you are interested in working on developing one of these projects in our community.

* Our current membership is at 54! Susan Lowe and Alicia Overton are our newest members- please give them a warm welcome.

I’m looking forward to hearing your ideas and suggestions. Please email me back at your earliest convenience. Thanks!
